In his Fatima Perspectives column, “A Breakthrough for Fatima ‘Inside the Vatican’”, noted author and President of the American Catholic Lawyers Association, Christopher A. Ferrara, informs us about the August/September 2008 issue of Inside the Vatican magazine, perhaps the leading “mainstream” publication on Vatican affairs, which contains a stunning breakthrough on the matter of Russia’s Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as requested 79 years ago by Our Lady of Fatima.

“Carmelite Convent Attacked in Madya Pradesh, India”

Read the latest update about the wave of violence against Catholics that is now spreading to other parts of India. According to the All India Catholic Union, this violence, which began in the state of Orissa three weeks ago, has so far — in Orissa alone — killed 45 and wounded 18,000; 5 are missing. 56 churches, 11 schools, and 4 NGO offices have been destroyed; 300 villages have been attacked; more than 4,000 homes have been burned or destroyed, forcing more than 50,000 people to flee. Of these, 40,000 are still hiding in the forest; 12,000 are sheltered in the refugee camps provided by the government.

Read our ongoing series about The Saints of the Week. Our featured saints for the week ending September 20 are the Stigmata of St. Francis of Assisi (September 17th) and Saint Januarius (September 19th).

On the feast of the Holy Cross, Saint Francis of Assisi prayed to Our Lord for two graces before he died: that he would feel in his body and soul as far as he could the pain Our Lord felt on the Cross; and that he would feel in his heart the love by which Our Lord was willing to accept such cruel sufferings for sinners. Saint Francis then saw a vision of an angel carrying the image of Jesus on the Cross, and his soul was filled with Divine love. When the vision ended, he found that his hands, feet, and side had the five wounds of Jesus.

Many centuries ago, Saint Januarius died for the Catholic Faith under the persecution of Emperor Diocletian, and to this day God confirms the faith of His Church, and works a continual miracle, through the blood which Januarius shed for Him.
