Numerous Rosary rallies and consecrations to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on local, state and national levels took place throughout 2017, the centenary year of Our Lady’s Apparitions in Fatima. The most famous and well-attended Rosary crusades occurred in Poland with the October 2017 “Różaniec dogranic” (Rosary on the Border) and Ireland’s “Rosary on the Coast for Life and Faith,” last November.
Similar efforts have already begun to be organized for this year, with a “Rosary on the Coast for Faith, Life and Peace in the British Isles” throughout the United Kingdom planned for late April, and “Oz Rosary #53” scheduled for May 13, in Australia.
These efforts signify a growing, universal awareness of the desperate need for the Blessed Virgin Mary’s intervention, given the state of the Church and the world. Of course, this increasing awareness is encouraging – mankind is long overdue in turning to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, “the Seat of mercy, of goodness, of pardon,” as Sr. Lucy described It to Fr. Fuentes. It goes without saying that a public recitation of the Holy Rosary and a national consecration to the Immaculate Heart are always praiseworthy and fruitful.
At the same time, these pursuits of prayer are bittersweet. Will they honor Our Lady? Of course. Will they gain graces and temporal blessings for the respective countries in which they take place? Certainly. Are they a fulfillment of Our Lady’s Fatima requests? No. Will they bring about world peace? No – not of themselves, but they will certainly help toward the final goal of achieving the Consecration of Russia.
Like various Rosary crusades in the past century, and different consecrations over the years (Pius XII in 1942, and John Paul II in 1984 and 2000), and other projects underway in the Church, these undertakings are welcome as they will make people aware of the Fatima Message, and will gain some graces, but they are seriously deficient.
Grateful acknowledgement for these efforts cannot but be coupled with a realization of today’s eleventh-hour urgency and the knowledge of the true but simple solution for our problems. I cannot help but emphatically turn to these events’ organizers, and all others trying to work for the good of the Church and the world, with the words often attributed to St. Augustine: Bene curris, sed extra viam – You run well, but outside of the path!
Dear friends in the fight for the Faith, companions in the struggle to prevent World War III and worse, do you not know that the Blessed Mother gave us Heaven’s answer which is still ignored, a century later? Are you unaware that if the Pope and all the Catholic bishops together offer a brief, uncomplicated prayer, consecrating Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, your respective countries will also experience peace and prosperity? That the hearts of men, subject to unceasing anxiety, will finally find serenity when the Immaculate Heart triumphs? Yes, violence and uncertainty can and will yield to tranquility and order, but only when this true Consecration is done.
Continue to organize many Rosaries, yes; keep scheduling more and more consecrations. But remember that these are not means to an end! All this must necessarily lead to the Consecration of Russia. Only then will all other projects be (completely) effectual, only when this Consecration finally takes place will permanent results be seen.
Those organizing and participating in the upcoming Rosaries are certainly of good will, they recognize Our Lady’s unique role as Queen of Heaven and earth, they realize the need for Her mediation. They are to be commended. But how much more effective would they – would all of us – be, if we worked in common for the Consecration of Russia? The situation in our Church and throughout the world continues to rapidly deteriorate; we are all too cognizant of hanging on by a thread, living “on borrowed time.”
A temporary fix, no matter how edifying or respectable, can no longer substitute for lasting resolution. Inform yourself and inform others of the full Fatima Message, especially the Blessed Virgin’s command for the Consecration of Russia. The survival and salvation of countless souls depend on it.
